My Musical Biography
Howlin' Hobbit has been playing music and singing since grade school. That was somewhere back in the dark ages.

Howlin' plays a variety of instruments, but his main "axes" nowadays are ukulele and harmonica. He's starting to throw in a bit of melodica as well.

Over the years Howlin' has played guitar and harmonica with several groups including Peanut Envy, Loose Livin', and Blues Plate Special. He's played washboard with Dog Mafia, the Emerald City Jug Band and Patsy Fuller, another busker (from the U.K.), and was featured in that capacity (as well as vocals and harmonica) on her CD 'Twixt Pike & Pine.

In addition to his solo efforts Howlin' is once again busking at the Pike Place Market, the Ballard Sunday Market, and other locations in Seattle and also plays with his band, Snake Suspenderz. Check out their site for upcoming gigs.

HH,

I haven't been gigging much lately so I'm out of practice. Dave Talsma has asked me to do some stuff for his website, so I might have some short videos there sometime.

Hope things are going well for you.

Hi Howlin',

I think there will be other Seattleites coming soon. Maybe we should invite them.

It's nice to see you here. I don't think we've met, but I've seen you a few times at SUPA. I like your music. I also like that pretty little soprano that you carry. Pat

Video double feature

I finally got back to work chopping out songs from the loong video of the Snake Suspenderz appearance at the 2009 National Kazoo Day celebration.

There are two new ones; Dead Egyptian Blues and The Lady Is A Tramp. And the final one I'm going to edit is currently boiling down on the old eMac!

As is my custom, I've posted all the nitty gritty facts on my blog. And you can view the vids there too.

Do leave feedback!… Continue

Snake Suspenderz "rehearsal tapes" series

Occasionally at our band practices we haul out Thadd's Zoom H2 and record a tune or three, live into stereo. Thadd downloads 'em onto his Mac, sweetens them up a bit, and we release them, for free, as part of our "rehearsal tapes" series.

There's a number of them out there already... six since we added sal on tuba.

We recorded our latest one yesterday, Tiny Bubbles.

You can read all the gory details on my blog as well as… Continue

Snake Suspenderz new CD is out!

Last Saturday night my band, Snake Suspenderz released our newest (and most ambitious) project to date, Serpentine.

There are 14 original tunes on the CD and 2 covers. Some of the original songs are written by me, some by Thaddeus Spae (trombonist in the band) and some co-written by the both of us.

This is a DIY project — yeah, we gots the indie cred! — from start to finish. We even designed and built the packaging ourselves. It's Tha… Continue

Are you promoting the Ukulele Social Club?

I am.

You should be too.

Talk about it in your personal blog, on your favorite forums, to your friends in your local ukulele club and to anyone else you know that might be interested.

A ukulele social network goes so far beyond the usual forums and has so much more to offer.

Remember! The more the merrier!
