Or you might just want something funny to perform at your friend's wedding.

Whatever the reason you want to write a song, feel join this group. Anybody who has experience song writing please join too.

Bear in mind this is a beginner and child-friendly group, so please avoid any criticism, advice, or info that will fox newcomers.

Thanks.

Plays for me but it's outta sync pretty bad.

Good tune Steven. Sounds like Snake Suspenderz material.

Good playing too.

Your song doesn't play. Is this on YouTube?

Okey dokey - there's now a video of 'Why Does My Baby Play the Ukulele' as promised. All constructive criticism welcome! It was recorded on a Flip Ultra so isn't terribly sophisticated but suits me right now.

I watched "The Gay Train". I think it had a great message about accepting others and loving rather than fearing those who are different from ourselves.

Speaking of "finding the rhythm in words", a good example is Rap. I love the way the voice is used as percussion setting up a strong beat. My problem is that I am offended by verses that degrade and put down others, and rap frequently does that.

I hope somebody else posts a song soon. I'm beginning to get some ideas for my next song. Think I'll do the tune in Em and G using a strong rhythm. Maybe throw in a bit of D7 at the ends of verses.

****NOT WORK/CHILD SAFE****

Ah....I almost forget this, over the last 10 or so years and many drunk(ish) conversations with good friends, I came up with this following 21 important songwriting/performance tips....
They are in the charmingly named blog "Why Your Band Are S**t":
www.myspace.com/jimmythehomeless

...Jimmy The Homeless is my angry alter ego...where I go when I am annoyed...instead of shouting at friends or stranges, I press record and shout at a microphone....

I have a solo album "Love Song 101" with One Hundred & One cute love songs on it....quite often I feel like writing cutest, twee lovesongs...but to keep a yin/yang balance in my life, sometimes I feel like writing shouty, sweary songs....I think it's equally valid...and here's the results....NOT FOR THE EASILY OFFENDED....infact, not really for anyone other than me!

Anyway, the list came about with a lot of help from the very lovely M J Hibbett:

One of his brilliant videos about love/tollerence: "The Gay Train":

"find the rhythm in the words"

I love that bit. Thanks for joining Bobby McGees.

Well that sounds simple enough! Welcome to our group. I like your attitude. If you brought your muse along I'd like to borrow her. I'm sure I can find 3 chords and a chrush (does that mean orange soda pop???).

Wite some words... find the rhythm in the words, play G & C...with maybee a D flung in.

If you find the words bit hard/embarassing, cut some words or sentances that catch your attention from a magazine and arrange them randomly...then come up with some rhymes.

I think the whole 16 bars this, 8 bars that is a little complicated and restrictive.
It helps me that I am tone deaf (some people say I am tone dumb!)...I will say to El'..."hey I've worked out that old Rammones song..."
She'll say "What are you on about, that sounds nothing like it!...it's a good tune though!"
