I am 71 year old now and have been playing the ukulele since I was 12. I also play guitar and a bit of keyboard. I have 10 ukes and two synthesisers, a piano, a mandolin and my most recent aquisition is a 1927 Bacon uke-banjo comletely refurbished by Alan Harris in England. It cost me 600 English pounds but, oh, the sound. Just like brother George's. Hope all my brothers and sisters in music are well and plinking well. When I was 16 my mum sent me a birthday card with this little poem in it.

'tis the girl in his heart what makes a lad sing

Plinking all day on his plinkety thing.

Have fun and stay smiling.

I belong to Wigan Ukulele Club, the town where George was born, There are a few members who belong to the George Formby society, and boy, they can play like him! They could probably answer any questions on the great fellow!

Marcy,

I have several videos of George. You may be able to pick up some stuff from them.

Marcy: I don't think anybody could have afforded lessons from the highest payed entertainer in the UK. But many people have picked up tricks and lessons from his records and films, including me. I was around when George spent a lot of time in Warrington. However I only started playing uke when I moved to Somerset 10 years ago. What did I miss ?

Does anybody know people who took lessons from George Formby? Is there anyone who can give us some pointers? There must be players who at least met him and have stories to tell.
